
News Archive »Augusto Farfus provided BMW Team Germany with a win on home soil. Priaulx boosted BMW’s points with second place ahead of Gabriele Tarquini. In fact Tarquini was the only non-BMW driver in the top five. Jörg Müller came from 23rd to finish fourth with Sergio Hernández taking fifth. Nicola Larini crossed the line sixth for Chevrolet ahead of Yvan Muller who salvaged two points from a difficult weekend.
Independent driver Franz Engstler was sitting third overall until lap eight when he slowed and retired. This left Tom Coronel to overtake Tom Boardman for his second Independent win of the day and eighth overall. Stefano D’Aste was in contention for a top eight finish but was given a drive through penalty as his mechanics had not detached the battery cables after the one-minute board was shown on the grid.
Man of the race
Tom Coronel was back on form this weekend taking two Independent victories. Race 2 saw the charismatic Dutchman battling with fellow Sunred Engineering driver Tom Boardman. On lap nine he overtook Boardman to take the win and the lead in the Independents’ Trophy. Coronel managed to score a massive 39 points during the weekend.
Key moment
Race 2 saw a duo of Independent drivers fight among the works drivers. Franz Engstler and Stefano D’Aste began from the front row of the grid and after good starts were closely fighting for third position behind Farfus and Priaulx. However, on laps seven and eight their chances of a podium were dashed as D’Aste paid his drive through penalty and Engstler retired wth a broken drive shaft.
