Muller sets fastest time

With a lap of 1:35.227 clocked in the afternoon, the Frenchman was even a bit faster than Robert Huff's fastest time on Tuesday of 1:35.324.

Nicola Larini replaced Huff at Chevrolet and set the second fastest time of the day, with a gap of only 0.122 seconds. Third fastest was BMW's Augusto Farfus, only one further tenth behind.

The top-six drivers were all covered by six tenths, including BMW's Félix Porteiro who improved by one second on Tuesday's time and climbed to sixth fastest.

After clocking an impressive third fastest time on the first day of testing, James Thompson and his Honda Accord was only classified eighth with a gap of nine tenths.

"With only free practice left at Valencia before we race, it was essential that we focused on assessing the car under race conditions," the Briton explained.

"We have worked a lot on the car's development and needed to see where it was at with little over a week to go. We practiced various race starts as well as tyre duration."

The Russian Bears Motorsport LADA 110 car hit the track again after the first day's engine failure.

Viktor Shapovalov dramatically improved on Tuesday's lap time and reduced the gap to 2.5 seconds while his Dutch team-mate Jap van Lagen was really impressive, setting a fastest lap of 1:36.476, which was only 1.2 seconds off Yvan Muller's fastest time of the day.
