The first charity auction took place at the Brno circuit as part of the gala opening of the resurfaced racetrack on Sunday, 18th May 2008. Five cubes signed by MotoGP aces Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Loris Capirossi was sold for 115,000 CZK.
One week later, an on-line auction followed. A total of seventeen cubes signed by other MotoGP riders and famous Czech car drivers were sold for 86,850 CZK.
The money, administered by KRTEK, the Childhood Cancer Foundation, will be spent mostly on new medical equipments, such as vital functions monitors or pulse oxymeters.
During last week FIA WTCC event, all the podium finishers – Alessandro Zanardi, Gabriele Tarquini, Félix Porteiro, Alain Menu and Robert Huff – signed other cubes that will be auctioned later this year.
