Proteam Motorsport"s Sergio Hernández is the new leader of the Independents" Trophy. With two victories at Brno, the young Spaniard managed to jump on top of the classification with a 5-point margin ahead of his team-mate and 2007 champion Stefano D"Aste.
The latter experienced a nightmare weekend in the Czech Republic, and could only add three points to his tally.
Both the Brno races were fiercely fought. Hernández won the first one, beating Franz Engstler by inches after a long duel. Pierre-Yves Corthals crossed the line in third, after D'Aste had crashed on the last lap.
In the second race, a collision between D'Aste and Engstler on the last lap handed another victory to Hernández who finished ahead of Corthals and Andrey Romanov; the Russian claimed his best result so far despite an early collision with Michal Matějovský.
Corthals and Engstler are currently third and fourth in the trophy's classification, only one point apart.
