At Curitiba Fernando Monje scored his first point in the FIA World Touring Car Championship on his only second participation in the series in which he had made his debut at Valencia, earlier during the current season.
The time penalty imposed to Pepe Oriola for speeding at the rolling start of the first race in Brazil, demoted the young Spaniard from tenth to 16th. At the same time his countryman and team-mate at Tuenti Racing Team, Monje, was promoted to tenth, which gave him his first WTCC point.
A brilliant result for the 19-year old racer who had been crowned FIA European Touring Car champion one month earlier at Imola and was driving for the first time the SEAT León WTCC.
“My first point! This is absolutely wonderful!” commented Monje who is now looking forward to the four last events of the season at Sonoma, Suzuka, Shanghai and Macau.
