Chairman of a manufacturing company in his native Hong Kong, Kin Pong Clerebold Chan will make his FIA World Touring Car Championship debut at one of the toughest events of them all, WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Macau. With zero experience of TC1 World Touring Car technology and competition, advice and guidance from his Campos Racing team will be crucial as Chan builds his confidence on the challenging Circuito da Guia street track. Fortunately for the 50-year-old, Campos Racing is well-versed in helping inexperienced racers adapt to their new surroundings. He will be joined at Campos by compatriot Po Wah Wong.

A regular in the end-of-season Asian events from 2011-2014, Mak returns to the FIA World Touring Car Championship for his home event, WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Macau. While the Circuito da Guia is tried and tested for the Hong Kong-born Macanese, his RC Motorsport TC1 World Touring Car will be new to him when Free Practice 1 begins at this year’s street spectacular. However, with 12 WTCC starts to his name, the high-level competition and all-action races won’t represent a major shock to the experienced Mak, who will call on new team-mates Yann Ehrlacher and Kevin Gleason for set-up advice.

Richard gets his big break at WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan when he makes his World Touring Car Championship debut, his reward for winning the FIA European Touring Car Cup in 2016 when he claimed five wins in a Honda Civic. ETCC and WTCC promoter Eurosport Events had offered the ex-single-seater racer and one-time lorry driver his prize at the Monza weekend in late April but a clash with a TCR Germany round ruled out an appearance. He took the 2016 ETCC crown on countback in a dramatic final-round decider at Imola having begun the season with limited tin-top experience.

He follows Norbert Michelisz, the ex-Zengő driver turned factory Honda contender, as a former online racer to be handed a dream opportunity to race in the WTCC via a stint in the ETCC, having won a talent competition at the Hungaroring. With experience in TCR International and SEAT León Europcup, Szabó claimed his maiden ETCC victory in Vila Real in late June.

Ex-motocrosser Gleason, whose motorsport interest was fired by his father’s exploits in sportscars, has been racing since 2008. Keen to break the mould by venturing outside of the States, the Business Management graduate switched to the GT Asia Series in 2014 when he also competed in the Bathurst 12 Hours, ahead of a move to the TCR International Series for 2015. A debut pole in Malaysia proved an early highlight with two wins following later in the year, just as soon as he’d adapted to the rigours of European-style touring car racing. A partial 2016 TCR programme netted one victory.

Expectations are high for this 20-year-old, given his uncle is none other than four-time WTCC champion Yvan Muller and his mother, Cathy, was a respected single-seater racer in her own right. Skipping karts completely, Ehrlacher began racing in the Scirocco Cup in Germany before contesting the Mitjet 2L series with Yvan Muller Racing, winning the French championship in 2014. Title success in French Supertouring followed before Ehrlacher joined the LMP3 ranks in the European Le Mans Series last season, driving a Ligier JS P3 for his uncle’s team and winning his class in Estoril. Father Yves is an ex-professional footballer.
