Monteiro: Watch WTCC Race of Portugal live on free-to-air TV

FIA World Touring Car Championship title contender Tiago Monteiro has told fans living in Portugal to get set for some “amazing action” when free-to-air TV channel TVI broadcasts both races from Vila Real live on 25 June.

TVI has agreed terms with Eurosport Events, the WTCC promoter, to show both the Opening Race and Main Race live on TVI24 with additional coverage set to feature on TVI’s main news programmes and digital platforms. The agreement also includes the provision for highlights of all 2017 WTCC races to be broadcast on TVI.

Monteiro, the Formula One grand prix podium finisher turned WTCC title chaser, won in Vila Real last season for the factory Honda team, to spark euphoric celebrations among the thousands of fans fortunate enough to be in the city that day.

He said: “Obviously it would be great if as many fans as possible can be in Vila Real on 25 June for what will be a brilliant event, but for those who can’t, the live TV coverage on TVI is going to fantastic so don’t forget to tune in for some amazing action. TVI is a really good partner to have on board and I’m very pleased they’ll be showing highlights of all other races as well.”

François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, the WTCC promoter, added: “We are very pleased to announce that WTCC Race of Portugal will be broadcast live on free-to-air TV in the country. TVI is a long-term partner of the championship, which has enjoyed a long and successful history in Portugal. And with Tiago Monteiro and now Manuel Fernandes on the grid, there’s even more reason for fans to watch the live action.”

TVI is the most watched television channel in Portugal and is prime-time audience leader since 2001 and all-day audience leader since 2005. With an average market share of 22.1 per cent (Source: GfK), TVI programming offers relevant, current and quality content in genres such as national and international dramas and soaps, news, sports and entertainment, also big and successful international formats that are adapted to Portuguese viewer preferences. In 2016, TVI reached 53.8 per cent of the population, a total of 5,213,000 viewers. TVI24 is a 24/7 live news channel available across Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
